Here’s the latest in our Friday series of old butcher shop photos. This one shows an Irish meat market, circa 1901. Look how everything is arranged in perfect symmetry — except the butchers themselves.

    it is symmetrical, or at least balanced. 2 butchers and one carcass on one side, one butcher and two carcasses on the other. however, if the the butcher and the butchered are viewed as being the same, or viewed as having some commonality in some aspect beyond just size, you have symmetry. it wouldn't be hard to come up ways in which they could be viewed in that way.
