Preheat oven to 450°.
Make sure butter and lard are very cold- leave in fridge until ready to use.
Mix dry ingredients together. Quickly cut in butter and lard until crumbly.
Make a well in the dough and pour in buttermilk. Use hands or a wooden spoon to mix until just incorporated.
On a floured surface, turn dough out and pat into a roughly 1″ thick round. Cut out biscuits and reuse remaining dough, working the dough as little as possible.
Place on an ungreased cookie sheet with biscuits lightly touching (this will help them grow tall) in the middle of the oven.
Bake for 10- 15 minutes or until tops are brown.
